African, Latin America and Caribbean regions discuss chemicals and nanotechnology
5-8 April 2011, Nairobi, Kenya - Following the request by the African region at its meeting held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire in January 2010 in which participants called for the region to meet in early 2011 to prepare for the first meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG), UNITAR in conjunction with the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) Secretariat held an African regional meeting on SAICM and a UNITAR workshop on nanotechnologies and manufactured nanomaterials in Nairobi, Kenya from 5 to 8 April 2011.
The region recommended that the outcomes of the meeting be included in the SAICM report on nanotechnologies and nanomaterials, called for in Resolution II/4 E of the second session on the International Conference on Chemicals Management which explains the need for an inclusion of a number of emerging issues in the SAICM process.
Latin America and Caribbean regions
30 May – 3 June 2011, Panama City, Panama - The 3rd Latin America and Caribbean regional meeting on the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and UNITAR workshop on Nanotechnology and Manufactured Nanomaterials will be held in Panama City, Panama from 30 May to 3 June 2011.
The meeting responds to a request by the Latin America and Caribbean region at its 2nd regional meeting held in Kingston, Jamaica, in March 2010 in which participants called for the region to meet in early 2011 to prepare for the first meeting of the SAICM Open-ended Working Group as a lead up to the 3rd session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management to be held in 2012.
