12 September 2011 – UNITAR has initiated training workshops for Capacity Building on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in four ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand) and the People’s Republic of China. The training is part of the project “Strengthening National and Regional Capacities to Implement the GHS in ASEAN – Phase II”, funded by the European Union.

The training sessions are being conducted as follows:

12-16 September 2011, Manila – Philippines
19-24 September 2011, Bangkok – Thailand
26-30 September 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia
03-07 October 2011, Jakarta – Indonesia
07-11 November 2011, Beijing – PR China

These sessions will be jointly conducted by UNITAR/ILO and the Orange House Partnership (OHP), with the collaboration of the national partners in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, as well as support from other international partners such as the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Health Canada and the Environmental Protection Authority of New Zealand.  The target audience for these trainings includes personnel from Government Ministries and Agencies, local authorities or provincial state/governments, industry, labour organizations, public interest NGOs, and related research bodies.
