A workshop on Local Governments and Climate Change attracted participants from twenty-eights Latin American cities that met in Curitiba, Brazil, from 24th to 27th March. The objective of the workshop was to deepen the city representatives knowledge on climate change impacts in urban areas. It enabled them to become familiarized with climate change solutions and methodologies and to exchange best practices on climate change adaptation and mitigation.
The participants got various inspirations from different geographical areas as Local Authorities from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Mozambique, and Uruguay were present. Furthermore, the participants benefited from the speeches of first-class experts representing the Stockholm Environment Institute, ICLEI, Clinton Climate Initiative, Veolia Environnement / Proactiva and others.
The workshop is part of an initiative of the UNITAR Local Development Programme that aims to strengthen the capacity of Local Authorities in tackling climate change.
