8-9 November 2012, Tarnów, Poland - More than 200 participants from 54 countries covering all regions of the world are attending the “International Meeting on Chemical Safety and Security” in Tarnów, organized by Poland and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in cooperation with the G8 Global Partnership and international partners. The meeting is meant to encourage international cooperation in the field of chemical safety and security and promote the development of a global chemical safety and security culture, and in particular to discuss ways to:

  • enhance chemical safety and security at the national level,

  • support capacity building and exchanges of best practices,

  • and improve national and international coordination of chemical safety and security matters.

At the meeting, UNITAR is presenting an overview of the IOMC (Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals) and the relevant activities of UNITAR, whose Chemicals and Waste Management Programme (CWM) provides support to governments and stakeholders to strengthen their institutional, technical, and legal infrastructure and capacities for sound chemicals and waste management and has on-going projects in over 40 countries.
