Jamaica initiates 2 year training and capacity building programme for the GHSJamaica, though the Office of the Prime Minister, has initiated in September 2009 a training and capacity building programme related to implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), in collaboration with UNITAR/ILO and with support from the Government of Switzerland. Jamaica is currently also the SAICM (Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management) regional focal point for Latin America and the Caribbean; the importance of implementing the GHS is recognised in the Overarching Policy Strategy (OPS) of SAICM where GHS implementation is identified under the overall objective of knowledge and informationand also included as a SAICM work area in the Global Plan of Action (GPA). The two year project will commence with a National GHS Planning Meeting and Comprehensibility Testing Training Workshop, held 28-30 October in Kingston.
