A message from our Partners

Our economic transformation demands a new approach to enhancing our competitiveness. Brain power and the creative power of the human imagination are now the drivers of competitive advantage as innovation and talent have become local as well as global assets. It is in this regard, ensuring our sustainability rests largely on our ability to imagine greater economic possibilities.

The Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago look forward to welcoming you to Port of Spain in October for the VIII Americas Competitiveness Forum which will take place from October 8th – 10th.

Senator Dr. the Honourable Bhoendradatt Tewarie
Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development
Trinidad & Tobago

The creative economy is one of the fastest growing sectors of the world economy and accounts for a significant proportion of national revenue and job creation. It is a sector that is transforming our world due to its vast potential for achieving inclusive and sustainable development. At the same time it creates jobs, it contributes to the overall well-being of communities and enhances the lives and livelihoods at the local level.

At CIFAL Curitiba we strive to promote the development of creative industries by facilitating high level and international dialogues that serve as a space to exchange knowledge and experiences, and to foster innovation.

Mr. Edson Luiz Campagnolo
President, Federation of Industries of the State of Parana, FIEP

Editorial: Fostering Creativity and Innovation

Creativity

Human creativity and innovation are key assets in the 21st century as they drive our competitive advantage and contribute to the improvement of economic development and growth. More specifically, they are key drivers of creative economies.

Creative economy is based on a new way of thinking and doing things. It is not only one of the most rapidly growing sectors of today's world economy but it is also highly transformative in terms of income-generation and job creation, and a strong driver of development. The world trade of creative goods and services amounted to USD624 billion in 2011, more than doubling since 2002 (UNCTAD, 2013).

With more than half of the world's population living in cities, there is about three-quarters of all economic activity occurring in them. This is largely due to the dense networks of interacting people, markets and activities. Creative economy is thus most commonly located and nurtured in urban settings, generally in large metropolitan areas.

Recognizing the opportunity offered by cities and regions, the CIFAL Global Network provides training and networking opportunities aimed at fostering creativity and innovation to promote creative industries, drive competitiveness and reach development.
