About the Programme

Training is at the heart of developing human and institutional capacity. The Multilateral Diplomacy and International Affairs Management Programme strives to reflect this reality by providing our target beneficiaries with an extensive menu of training opportunities to enhance professional performance and more efficient and effective decision-making.

  A Three-Tiered Programme Structure

The Programme offers three categories of training events:

The programme structure includes general orientation seminars, awareness raising workshops on emerging issues and policy developments, and skills building workshops. Topics focus on general and specific aspects of international relations, including legal, socio-economic and political perspectives. The course themes have been identified on the basis of training needs surveys, and are revised regularly following course evaluations and programme assessments.

  Target beneficiaries
  • Junior, mid-level and senior diplomats accredited to missions at UN Headquarters and Offices

  • Government officials from ministries of foreign affairs and specialized ministries in Member States;

  • Staff from intergovernmental organizations

  • Staff from nongovernmental organizations (NGOs); and

  • University professors and academic

The beneficiaries vary according to the programme structure. The regular courses and workshops at UN Headquarters and Offices target junior, mid-level and senior diplomats.

Tailor-made courses target government officials from foreign affairs and, increasingly, specialized ministries. Tailor-made events also focuses on representatives from intergovernmental organizations, NGOs, the private sector and universities. Fellowship programmes may target a combination of all beneficiary groups, depending on the specific aims of the programme.
