E-GOVERNANCE

The e-Governance Programme aims at delivering innovative capacity development programmes for government officials around the world on the topics related to using Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), including mobile technologies, to provide efficient government management of information to citizens; better service delivery to citizens; empowerment of the people through access to information and participation in public decision-making.

In addition to promoting e-government, the e-Governance Programme strives for applying ICTs to enhance the capacities of the public sector and other actors in addressing human development issues and improving social policies. To meet this objective the Programme spearheads several partnerships with UN entities and other partners to develop e-learning products and services on governance, MDG-related and corporate social responsibility topics.

UNITAR, OECD and Egypt have joined efforts to gather top-notch personalities during a four-hour side-event to the UN MDG Summit in New York on Smarter Partnerships in a Complex World: the Potential of MDG 8. The event, which was attended by more than 100 participants, included interventions by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretary-General of the OECD, the former Minister for Economic Development of Germany and the Director of the UN Global Compact Office. UNITAR, OECD and Egypt to hold major MDG event at UN in New York

Jointly with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the government of Egypt, UNITAR will hold a MDG Partnership Event on the 20th of September at the UN Headquarters in New York during the United Nations MDG Summit.
