ENVIRONMENTAL GOVERNANCE PROGRAMME

The Environmental Governance Programme develops methodologies, facilitates research, and provides project support and training to reinforce capacities for governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in environmental policymaking and execution.

Launching of E-learning course on green economy

The concept of a green economy enjoys increasing international attention, as countries explore new patterns of development taking into account economic, social and environmental sustainability considerations. To address this challenge, UNITAR is working closely with UNEP, ILO and UNIDO in a new Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), focusing on national capacity development. Together with PAGE partners, UNITAR is delivering the e-learning course “Introduction to a Green Economy: Concepts and Applications”, from 27 May to 19 July 2013.

Interagency workshop discusses opportunities for green skills development

13 March 2013, Turin, Italy - An Inter-Agency Workshop on Employment and Social Inclusion in a Green Economy was held on 4-5 March 2013 in Turin, Italy. More than 50 government representatives, researchers, development experts,staff of international organizations and practitioners came together to review and compare current approaches, tools and practices to assess and promote jobs and social inclusion in a green economy.

UNITAR joins Green Economy Interagency Intiative

19 February 2013, Nairobi, Kenya - A new partnership launched on 19 February 2013 by four UN agencies - UNEP, ILO, UNIDO and UNITAR - aims to support 30 countries over the next seven years in building national green economy strategies that will generate new jobs and skills, promote clean technologies, and reduce environmental risks and poverty.

Indonesia identifies strategic learning priorities to address Climate Change

14 February 2013, Jakarta, Indonesia - The National Council on Climate Change (DNPI) of the Government of Indonesia held a workshop on 14 February 2013 with over 62 participants representing 15 government ministries and agencies, 7 UN agencies, the UN Resident Coordinator Office, 3 universities, NGOs and the private sector, to review progress on development of a National Learning Strategy to address climate change.

Benin Defines Implementation Framework for National Human Resources and Skills Strategy to Address Climate Change

18-19 December 2012, Cotonou, Benin - The workshop entitled “Atelier de validation du document de Stratégie nationale de renforcement des ressources humaines, de l’apprentissage et du développement des compétences pour favoriser un développement vert, faible en émissions et résilient aux changements climatiques” organized in the framework of the UN CC:Learn Project in Benin on 18-19 December 2012, Cotonou, Benin brought together over 50 participants from various sectors. UN CC:Learn is a One UN initiative on climate change learning for which UNITAR is providing the Secretariat.
