Registration Extension: World Heritage Nominations - Protection and Management Requirements Workshop

18 February 2015, Hiroshima, Japan - Due to requests from a number of stakeholders, the registration deadline for the UNITAR Hiroshima World Heritage Nominations: Protection and Management Requirements Training Programme, taking place in Hiroshima, Japan between 20 and 24 April 2015, has been extended to Monday 9 March. Participants, utilising interactive lectures, study-visits, case-stuies, and practical exercises, will, by the end of the Programme, be able to;

  • Review key elements of the World Heritage (WH) Convention;
  • Analyze principles and objectives of the WH Convention;
  • Compare and contrast criteria within the WH Convention;
  • Describe the Operational Guidelines of the WH Convention;
  • Explain the principles of Values-Based Heritage Management;
  • Review key elements of the nomination/evaluation process;
  • Outline effective protection systems;
  • Address key management requirements.

The UNITAR Series on the Management and Conservation of World Heritage Sites, launched in 2003, has thus far comprised eleven annual Workshops held in Hiroshima and one in-country Workshop in India. The Series, with over 360 Alumni to date, offers a set of innovative approaches to heritage conservation, including:

  • A values-based management approach examining the significance of the sites to be conserved;
  • The fusion of cultural and natural heritage management;
  • The recognition of both the tangible and intangible aspects of heritage sites;
  • Focused analysis of specific areas of the nomination process.
