Promoting Climate Resilience for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Communities

participants of the event23 March 2015, Glasgow, Scotland - CIFAL Scotland, in partnership with Amina, the Muslim Women’s Resource Centre, held a one-day learning event on climate resilience on 16 March in Glasgow.

The event was addressed to Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community members facing high levels of fuel poverty. It convened women from 14 countries as far as Iraq, Somalia, Libya, Cameroon and Sudan to learn about climate resilience strategies based on four integrated themes: transport, food, recycling and energy.

Through participatory working sessions the seminar presented practical opportunities for women to reduce their fuel poverty, whilst discussing the relationship between energy consumption and climate change.

Participants were able to identify low carbon and cost efficient ways to travel; determine how to produce nutritious meals using locally sourced ingredients; apply basic principles of reducing waste, reusing materials and recycling.

The event was held under the auspices of Glasgow Green Year 2015 and British Science Week
