CIFAL Plock Hosts a Seminar on the Occasion of the World Water Day

CIFAL Plock Hosts a Seminar on the Occasion of the World Water Day16 April 2015 - CIFAL Płock in partnership with the State School of Higher Professional Education in Płock organized a seminar on 23 March on the occasion on the World Water Day 2015.

In 2015 the World Water Day (WWD) focused the attention on the importance of freshwater and advocated for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. The 2015 WWD theme is “Water and Sustainable Development”.

Mr. Krzysztof Buczkowski, Director of CIFAL Płock, highlighted the role of water in the sustainable development agenda and 100 participants, mostly students of the State School of Higher Professional Education, had the opportunity to learn more about the World Water Day and got an update on how the international community perceives water's role in the post-2015 framework.

Mr. Buczkowski highlighted the work that the United Nations does around the world to build local knowledge and skills as a means to achieve sustainable change in the water, sanitation and hygiene sectors. He explained that as we enter a new development framework, we need the sustained commitment, cooperation and investment from all stakeholders. More and more businesses, communities, corporations, schools, individuals and youth must realize not only the importance, but also the urgency to solve our clean water crisis.

Parallel to the main event, CIFAL Płock organized a lesson for children from kindergarten to teach them about the poverty cycle and its relation to water and sanitation.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/47/193 of 22 December 1992 by which 22 March of each year was declared World Day for Water.  All are invited to devote the Day, as appropriate in the national context, to concrete activities such as the promotion of public awareness through the publication and diffusion of documentaries and the organization of conferences, round tables, seminars and expositions related to the conservation and development of water resources and the implementation of the recommendations of Agenda 21.
