UNITAR Offers Climate Change Diplomacy Course In Preparation For COP22 In Marrakesh

UN Photo/Rick BajornasAugust 2016, Geneva, Switzerland - UNITAR is pleased to announce the upcoming edition of its highly successful online course on Climate Change Diplomacy: Negotiating Effectively Under the UNFCCC which will take place from 12 September 2016 to 6 November 2016.

This online course will develop participants’ understanding of the climate change policy framework, by building an appreciation of the science, causes and impacts of climate change, the history of the policy making process and the UNFCCC framework, and will also consider the pertinent challenges currently facing diplomats and international decision makers in making progress with what is currently on the negotiating table.

In the run up to COP22 in Morocco, this unique course will better prepare climate change negotiators and allow them to perform more effectively and to their full potential. UNITAR is proud to have provided support and training to delegates around the COP21 table in Paris last year, and looks forward to contributing further to the COP22 in Marrakesh this November. By being fully prepared, the impacts of these agreements will be far-ranging and reaching to all.

This course targets government officers in ministries preparing for and/or taking part in conferences in relation to climate change as well as staff of intergovernmental / nongovernmental organizations. It also targets entry-level and mid-career diplomats working in a multilateral setting. Private sector specialists and students whose work or studies are related to this subject are also encouraged to apply.
