CIFAL Atlanta Assists Airports from Developing Nations to Enhance their Air Service Development Strategies

Participants from the Airport Air Service Development Seminar13 - 14 July 2017, Kennesaw, USA – The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Atlanta (CIFAL Atlanta) in partnership with Airports Council International (ACI) and Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport held a two-day training seminar on “Airport Air Service Development”, bringing together senior level airport officials from Lesotho, Ecuador, Mongolia, India, Nigeria, Barbados and Tonga. The seminar took place in Kennesaw, Georgia, USA and provided participants with strategies on how to effectively approach and support airline decisions that best serve their airports.

Through a blend of sessions consisting of short presentations, participant dialogue and interactive group activities, the seminar presented practical strategies for developing a route network that not only improves the function of the airport as a connecting point for the local economy to the rest of the world, but which also permits the airport’s commercial success.

Upon completion of the seminar, participants were able to describe the fundamental elements of airport/airline business relations, including the evolution of airline business models, and develop an air service development strategy that correctly approaches their airport’s domestic and/or international markets. They also learned to identify the right target airlines to serve airport strategic markets, including provision of supportive airport policies, facility access, pricing, and marketing incentives and to adjust the airport’s air service marketing strategy to reflect competitive responses and the evolving airline industry commercial environment. Participants learned the importance of involving domestic and international stakeholders in the airport’s marketing approach to achieve commercial success through policy support and establishing collaborative communication and cooperative dialogue with airlines that supports a long term and growing business relationships.

CIFAL Atlanta is pleased to partner with Airports Council International through the Developing Nations Airport (DNA) Assistance Programme to support airports in developing countries by providing training opportunities that helps them to implement initiatives that are sustainable, have impact, and bring results to those airports, while promoting economic growth.
