Introductory Briefing for UN DESA's New Tool on Migration 16 February 2018, New York, USA – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research organized the first briefing on the Series of Migration Issues of Relevance to the Global Compact for Migration. This lunch-time briefing was made possible by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs: Population Division where 50 participants attended the event. 

Our panelists was comprised of Ms. Eva Åkerman Börje, Senior Policy Advisor at the Office of the Special Representative for International Migration, Mr. John Wilmoth who currently serves as the Director of the Population Division/UN DESA, Dr. Colleen Thouez a Senior Advisor UNITAR and Mr. Bela Hovy currently serves as Chief of the Migration Section, Population Division/UN DESA.

Introductory Briefing for UN DESA's New Tool on Migration During the briefing, Mr. Bela Hovy, Chief of the Migration Section, Population Division/UN DESA introduced the Compendium of Agreed Language on Migration.

Through the use of this tool, participants are able to search resolutions that are related to international migration that will enable them to facilitate the process of negotiation and precedence of the GCM. Moreover Mr. Hovy encouraged participants to contribute to this database by submitting UN Resolutions relating to international migrations by emailing their suggestions through migrationp@un.org. The briefing concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Colleen Thouez.
