Based on the concept developed by the Chairman of the PTP Advisory Board, Mr. Jean Marie Guéhenno, for “Enhancing the Capacity of African Peacekeeping Training Institutions”, prefaced by Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi, UNITAR PTP has developed a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme. UNITAR delivers the courses, in collaboration with subject matter experts and partner institutions within the premises of African peacekeeping training institutions.

Objetivos del Evento

The expected outcome of the Training of Trainers initiative is the development of confident, competent trainers with the skills to prepare and implement a training programme in a specific area. Being a refresher course, the training will focus on experience sharing, discussion of challenges and lessons learnt in designing, delivering and evaluating training.

Objetivos de Aprendizaje

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Define the role of a trainer in various training situations;
  • Discuss the principles of adult learning;
  • Describe the main steps of the training cycle;
  • Apply skills to facilitate a range of interactive methodologies used in adult learning.


Contenido y Estructura

The course is taking place in the course of two days, focussing on the following topics: the role of the trainer, principles of adult learning, the elements of training cycle and various participatory learning methods.


The course is based on the synergy of theory and practice. The presentation of key concepts, theories and tools are closely linked with interactive exercises. The course emphasizes using participatory methods (including: interactive presentations, pair- and group work, role plays, Fishbowl, World café, brainstorming, value voting, energizers, etc.) This way, participants do not only learn various concepts but they also get familiar with many different methods they can use.
 In addition, there are activities where participants have the opportunity to individually reflect.  Since it is a meta-course, there is time allocated at the end of certain sessions to reflect on what happened, how the training was delivered, why it was done so, what could have been done better or differently.


As being a private event, participants will be selected by the Rwanda Peace Academy, based on their training experience and training activities related to the academy. Participants are expected to act as multiplyers after the training event.
