Contexte
In preparation for the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-IV) to take place in Turkey in 2011, the Migration and Development Series, organized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the MacArthur Foundation, is organizing a pre-conference thematic event centered on the theme of “Migration, Development and Remittances”, which will encompass the development dimensions relevant to the needs of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) such as human resources and migration development cooperation policies.

- Identifying key gaps and priorities on migration data collection for the LDCs;
- Maximizing the benefits of human capital mobility;
- Leveraging migrant remittances and diasporas contributions towards development;
- Enhancing the capabilities of LDCs through capacity building, institutional reforms and partnerships;
- Suggesting pro-poor and vulnerable population targeted measures to confront climate change, the effects of the global crisis and other vulnerability factors.
This seminar aims to provide policy recommendations on the migration and development agenda for LDC-IV, namely in the areas of:

The one day seminar covers the following topics:
- The Way Forward to LDC-IV: Mainstreaming Migration, Development and Remittances in the LDCs post-Brussels Plan of Action
- Mainstreaming Migration, Development and Remittances at the Country Level
- Special Session on Haiti in aftermath of Earthquake
Méthodologie
As an interactive face-to-face event this course features experts from IOM, the United Nations system and other international and non-governmental organizations. Following speaker presentations, participants have an opportunity to share their views and discuss matters of interest to them.
Public visé
The course is open to members of permanent missions to the United Nations in New York who work on issues related to migration and international law. Representatives of governments, international organizations, the United Nations system, civil society and private sector with academic or professional interest on the topic are also encouraged to participate.
