Niamey, Niger 06 to 10 April 2009

CIFAL Ouagadougou in partnership with the Association of Niger Municipalities (AMN) and the Municipal Development Partnership (MDP) organized a workshop on urban planning, especially on the methodologies and tools for the formulation of local development plans (LDPs). This workshop was intended for local authorities, municipal technical staff and representatives from central governments in charge of urban planning and /or land management. 33 participants from 12 African countries attended the workshop (Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Centrafrique Djibouti, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo).

To facilitate the implementation of their development programme, local authorities have to ensure that their vision meets real needs and is shared by the communities concerned. Faced with this challenge, the objective of the CIFAL workshop was to provide participants with methodological tools enabling them to direct, formulate and supervise their LDPs, and therefore to implement them more easily and efficiently.

This five day session allowed participants (i) to review local development planning in their communities (ii) to define the main stages in the formulation of a LDP (from the definition of the vision to the follow-up and evaluation of its implementation) (iii) and for each stage, to define the objectives to be achieved, the expected results, the required methodologies and tools and the persons involved.
