UNITAR’s Green Dreams campaign gains ground ahead of Rio+20
“When you dream alone, then your dream will just remain a dream. However, when we dream together, then our dream will come true.”
President Lee Myung-bak, East Asia Climate Forum, Seoul, 2010

The Green Dreams campaign aims to activate youth worldwide to collect citizen feedback by training them to be ‘dreamcatchers’ and map the priorities of urban citizens into 14 categories. ‘Dreams’ lasting up to 1 minute are recorded using cameras or smart phones and uploaded on a YouTube Channel and website. These dreams are presented to local decision makers encouraging them to take action for more local green growth. The campaign was created in 2011 by UNITAR’s international training centre for local actors (CIFAL) in Curitiba, Latin America’s greenest city. It has now spread to the United Kingdom, the United States and the Republic of Korea, our newest collaborator to launch the Green Dreams campaign. At its core, the campaign roots for a sustainable future that draws forth the potential of citizens of the world.
In South Korea, Cifal Jeju will host two youth workshops for young dreamcatchers during summer 2012 as a pre-event of World Conservation Congress (WCC) to be held in Jeju, 6-15 Sep 2012.
The Green Dreams campaign has also joined forces with the UN Future We Want (FWW) campaign, providing the video media for FWW. The campaign will premiere at RioCentro for the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development, with a live exhibition of selected Green Dreams for all to see. In addition, there will be dreamcatchers throughout Rio city capturing dreams live and uploading these to the Green Dreams and FWW websites!
