Understanding Conflict and Conflict Analysis Training Course in New Delhi, India
UNITAR and the Delhi Policy Group (DPG) successfully delivered a joint executive training on Understanding Conflict and Conflict Analysis at the New Delhi India Habitat Centre. The UNITAR course was specifically conceived for UN civilian and military personnel as well as interested parties from South Asia. While half of the participants were Afghan nationals working mainly for the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), participants also included staff deployed in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Designed to give UN personnel hands-on skills on the specific steps of conflict analysis, the training was very successful in achieving its objectives. From the analysis of structural conflict causes to the making of programmatic recommendations, participants worked intensively over the five days of the course to develop holistic and in-depth analyses of the conflict affecting the country where they are deployed. The participants unanimously enjoyed the executive training and vowed to apply the practical skills learnt during the course to improve the effectiveness of their respective missions and organisations.
The course ended with the delivery of diplomas by H. E. Terhi Hakala, Ambassador of Finland to India, and invaluable supporter of UNITAR’s commitment to bringing cutting-edge training to police, military and civilian personnel deployed in UN peace operations. This training was a further milestone in the achievement of UNITAR’s mission to bring peace and security through capacity building. In light of the success of the training and considering the vast number of applicants as well as the very high demand from UNAMA personnel, DPG and UNITAR are committed to extending the scope of the course to build greater capacity in conflict analysis and conflict resolution in Asia. This is especially critical in a context where the international presence in Afghanistan is about to be scaled down.
