13 January 2017, Geneva, Switzerland – On 13 January 2017 the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the University of Geneva signed their first agreement to launch a joint Master’s Programme of Advanced Studies in European and International Governance. The signature took place at the University of Geneva between the University’s Rector Mr. Yves Flückiger and the Executive Director of UNITAR Mr. Nikhil Seth.
This signature marks the launch of the Master’s programme which will start at the end of the month, and will be followed by an open conference on the following topic: “Global Governance Challenges - what role for the United Nations?” chaired by Mr. Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva. The conference will take place on 20 February 2017 at the University of Geneva, Unimail - Room S150 from 6:15pm to 8:00pm and is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the Master’s programme and who wishes to enrol in the programme the coming years.
The Master’s programme is organized in partnership with the Global Studies Institute and the Centre d’études juridiques européennes of the University of Geneva, and the collaboration with UNITAR allows to reinforce the linkages between the international organizations and the university, providing a practical approach to the teaching methods by bringing experts from the sphere of the International Geneva.
The programme allows graduates and professionals from various backgrounds to enhance their skills by providing them with high-level scientific and interdisciplinary expertise in the field of European and International Governance. It prepares participants for a wide range of careers in international organizations and European institutions as well as for careers in a national or local environment dealing with global issues.
