The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) organizes a series of open lectures that are held on a regular basis at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. UNITAR also organizes high-level panels on key issues related to the United Nations, bringing together key stakeholders from the Private and Public Sector and major, key UN players.

The Geneva Lecture Series (GLS), organized in partnership with the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), aims at bringing awareness of pressing global challenges to the concerned public and civil society in Geneva, with a focus on how each individual can contribute to resolve such challenges. Successfully launched by the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the GLS invites prominent speakers to give a lecture on an annual basis, explaining the various challenges facing the international community around a specific theme. A moderator then leads an open discussion in which participants have a rare opportunity to raise questions and engage in discussions with the internationally renowned speakers.
