Series in Post-Conflict Reconstruction and the UNITAR
Fellowship for Afghanistan
Launched
in 2003, the UNITAR Fellowship for Afghanistan is a long-term
capacity building initiative aimed at enhancing management and
leadership skills, and providing technical and institutional support
to a core group of Afghan government officials, academics and
practitioners.
The
Fellowship's long-term objective is to build a cadre of committed
and capable professionals in Afghanistan which can become a
reference for planning and implementing capacity building and
training activities at the local and national levels.
Key
features of the Fellowship:

Long-term training period;

Combination of distance learning (video conferencing, audio-web
conferencing and mentoring through e-mail exchange) and on site
training (workshops);
-
Network
of Mentors from around the world;
-
Afghan
‘Coaches’ selected from among the Fellowship’s own participants to
assist in-coming Fellows;
-
Formation of a Fellowship Community of like-minded professionals
within Afghanistan as a common resource.
