2008 Hiroshima Fellowship for Afghanistan

 

MODULE ON COACHING FOR COACHES - TIMELINE
as of 12 March 2008

 

 

 

The 2008 Coaches have already received an introduction to coaching, facilitation and team building in Hiroshima during the study-trip and workshop III of the 2007 Cycle of the UNITAR Hiroshima Fellowship for Afghanistan. Dr. Michael Fors of the Microsoft Corporation, the lead resource person of the Coaching for Coaches (CoC) module aims to have the 2008 module build on that foundation in order to further enhance skills to mentor Fellows through the Cycle. The module will be launched with a first training Audio-web conference (AWC) session on Thursday 13 March 2008. A tentative timeline with notes on the course content and activities can be seen below.

1 Preparation for the Module one week prior session 1 Assignment: Review of materials on Coaching shared during study-trip to Hiroshima in November 2007 and new assigned reading, development of presentation on how each Coach will plan their coaching role for their groups
 
2 Audio-web conference (AWC) Session 1 13 March Coaching/Mentoring -- discussion on the role from the Coach's perspective, and how the role is changing as the Coach's role expands as a part of the Mentoring team. (Coaches will be asked to review what they learned in Hiroshima during study0trip in November 2007, and their understanding of the role within the Fellowship; the additional materials on the topic will be discussed with the resource person; at the end Coaches will be asked to make a 5 minute presentation each on how they plan to present their role as Coach to their groups respectively)
 
3 AWC Session 2 18 March Team Building - the coach's role in the process -- keeping the Fellows and the Mentors connected and engaged. Coordinating and pro-actively planning with the international mentors to best facilitate the team's growth and development* 
 
4 AWC Session 3 27 March Conflict Resolution and Motivation
 
5 AWC Session 4 3 April How to guide Fellows to conduct a Needs Assessment? Review of the standard Needs Assessment model (which will be aligned with project planning) to be used by the Fellows for their assignment
 
6 AWC Session 5 10 April Overview of Projet Planning -- Tips to help the Coaches better guide their groups
 
7 Launch of Fellowship 22 April Coaches introduce the Fellowship to the new class with presentations. After an introductory session on Needs Assessment by an Afghan faculty member, the Coaches will work with the Fellows in groups to further explain and guide them for this assignment 
 
8 AWC Session 6 12 June De-briefing and lessons learned from active coaching 2 months in the programme (each Coach will be asked to make 5 min presentation on what the experience has been thus far, the challenges and what worked, what didn't for each)
 
9 Coaching Workshop 1 6 - 15 Jul (tbc) Joint working session with Fellows, Coaches and Mentors; Focus: Coaching for Coaches, Guidelines, clarifications and discussions on the roles and expectations of Fellows, Coaches and Mentors; team development; DISC test, team challenges.
 
10 AWC Session 8 11 September Progress update and concerns; Planning for November study-trip (tbc)
 
11 Coaching Workshop 2 1 - 9 Nov (tbc) Working Session on coaching and team work: Focus: team challenges, evaluation and lessons learned
