Training Series on
Series on Biodiversity
Conducted on site near two unique wetlands (the Kushiro Wetland and
Lake Akan, both listed as Ramsar Sites), and in partnership with the
Kushiro International Wetland Centre (KIWC), this series emphasizes
the link between integrated water and ecosystem management. It
focuses on the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use
of watershed basins in the Asia-Pacific region.
Key
features of the Series:

Study visits to and case studies of the two Ramsar sites in
Kushiro;

Partnerships with the Secretariats of the Convention on Biological
Diversity and the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands;

Major focus on water as a tool for an “ecosystem approach” in
order to enhance the holistic and unbounded nature of biodiversity
management;
-
Participants drawn from different sectors (including governmental,
academic and NGO) with different areas of expertise.

“ecosystem approach” and its principles;

Wetlands – cradles of biodiversity;

Ecosystem functions and services;

Development of water management plans;
