Hiroshima Office and Training Methodologies Development
(2003-2006)
Below are some of the methodologies
systematically applied by UNITAR to all its training activities.
1.
Training of Trainers (ToT)
In order to expand the impact of its
training, UNITAR HOAP gives increasing importance
to incorporating Training of Trainers (ToT) aspects in all its
activities. At the
end of each workshop, selected participants are invited as potential
trainers, to submit proposals for events in their country/sub-region;
UNITAR assists in their project planning and implementation. The
UNITAR Fellowship for Afghanistan for example incorporated ToT by
appointing selected participants of the 1st cycle as
coaches of the 2nd cycle.
2.
Distance learning and new training
methodologies
The Fellowship for Afghanistan employs
distance learning tools through video conferencing,
computer lab sessions, chat and internet forums. Video conferences
connect participants and mentors at 10 locations around the world,
providing a highly cost-effective training tool. UNITAR is seeking
to replicate the techniques used in the Fellowship for Afghanistan
in other initiatives.
3.
Application of Knowledge Management
techniques
New training methodologies,
such as After-Action-Reviews (AAR) and
Self-Assessments,
are being increasingly included in current and future
workshops.
The methodologies gained will be further refined and adapted to the
cultural/factual
specificities of the Asia-Pacific region.
4.
Project development support and
monitoring
The Fellowship for Afghanistan is a
prime example of
project development support and
monitoring.
The Fellowship provides
an intensive and long-term support to a large group from a single
country,
which differs somewhat from other
UNITAR projects. In the context of their training, Fellows are
requested to create
and implement a Personal Development Plan (PDP).
