UNITAR Series on Biodiversity

National Workshop

Mountain and Forest Ecosystems: Challenges, Issues and Ways Forward

Date:  13-14 August 2007

Venue: Dehradun, India

>>Leaflet (Eng)   >>Executive Summary

In its Series on Biodiversity (1998-) UNITAR promotes two key approaches for more effective ecosystem management:

1. A focus on integrated water resource management as a tool to enhance an ecosystem approach;

2. Training on policy development regarding ecosystem management, taking into account the specificity of the conservation area and the surrounding political, social and ecological contexts.

In its first national Biodiversity workshop conducted in India on Mountain and Forest Ecosystems: Challenges, Issues and Ways Forward, UNITAR, in cooperation with the Wildlife Institute of India, provided a forum for knowledge and information exchange on appropriate conservation measures and capacity building among participants and created a network of information exchange that will continue beyond the workshop.

This national workshop was open to nature conservation experts in India as well as to UNITAR Alumni.
