21 March, 2014 Merida, Mexico – CIFAL Merida in partnership with Merida International Airport inaugurated the 9th International Training Seminar on Hurricane Preparedness focusing on the theme “Revitalization of Airport Services".
More than 70 experts and airport authorities from Mexico, North and South America gathered in the city of Merida, Mexico to share experiences and good practices on how to be better prepared when hurricanes strike, especially in vulnerable areas near the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. 25 February 2014, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – UNITAR attended the Final Review Workshop held in Santo Domingo on 25 February 2014. The main objectives of the workshop were to review the final outcomes of the national project for the implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and to discuss next steps to continue promoting chemicals safety in the country.
With the process to develop the post-2015 development agenda approaching critical milestones, UNITAR is organizing a series of interactive technical briefings for members of delegations and other government officials at the United Nations in New York, and later in Geneva. The overall objective of the briefings is to strengthen knowledge for evidence-based decision making in the formulation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
For the second consecutive biennium, the Institute’s total number of beneficiaries has topped the 50,000 benchmark. The 847 events delivered by UNITAR over the 2012-2013 budget cycle (ranging from training and related briefings, courses, seminars and workshops to events reaching out to the public at large, such as conferences, public lectures and side events) produced nearly 44,000 of these beneficiaries, or some 86 per cent. The remaining 14 per cent represented indirect beneficiaries and were produced by events organized by other entities in which UNITAR provided inputs.
