8 - 10 December 2013, Algiers, Algeria - The High Level Seminar entitled “Assisting Incoming African Members on the UN Security Council in Preparing to Address Peace and Security Issues on the Continent” took place in Algiers from the 8-10 December 2013 and was convened by the African Union Peace and Security Commission and UNITAR’s Peacekeeping Training Programme, and hosted by the government of Algeria.

10 December 2013, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – UNITAR, through its Hiroshima Office, trained 20 representatives of the civil service of Afghanistan on small and medium enterprise (SME) development in a workshop which took place in Abu Dhabi between 30 November and 5 December. The workshop brought together senior government officials from Kabul, including two Vice-Ministers, and their counterparts from several provinces, which allowed for in-depth discussion covering a range of issues from policy to implementation.

28 November 2013, Geneva, Switzerland – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in cooperation with the Group of 77 and China, Geneva Chapter, organized a high-level event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of UNITAR, and to sign a Framework of Cooperation between G77 and UNITAR.
11-22 November 2013, Warsaw, Poland - More than 12,000 negotiators, observers and NGOs met in Warsaw, Poland from 11-22 November 2013 for the 19th Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The talks in Warsaw were not dramatic, though hard fought at times, and have kept the process on track towards a new universal agreement on climate change in 2015. Significant decisions were made in the area of deforestation, and loss and damage.
