Human Rights Briefing, A Joint OHCHR – UNITAR Orientation for Diplomats

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research is pleased to announce the organization of a two-day Human Rights Briefing for members of Permanent Missions accredited to UN offices and embassies. The Briefing is being organized jointly with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and is the first in a series of events supported by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Taking place prior to the tenth regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the Briefing aims at enhancing diplomats’ understanding of the international human rights protection system and strengthening their skills for an effective performance of their human rights related functions.
The Briefing will cover the structure and functioning of the Human Rights Council, other international mechanisms and procedures for the protection and promotion of human rights, the work of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the United Nations human rights normative framework and key human rights policies underlying the work of the United Nations.
The Briefing will be conducted in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French.
