Participation/Qualification of Applicants and Selection Process
PARTICIPATION/QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANTS
To qualify for the fellowship, candidates must be between 24 and 40 years of age at the beginning of the Programme. They should be law graduates with practical experience in the field of international law acquired by working for a public or private organization or a university. Candidates will have to certify that they are able to attend the entire Programme period. The Programme accommodates up to 18 fellowships.
Candidates from the following countries, which were granted fellowships in 2008, are not eligible to apply for a fellowship in 2009:
Botswana, Brazil, China, Ecuador, the Gambia, Ghana, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Malawi, Mexico, Montenegro, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Saint Lucia and South Africa.
SELECTION PROCESS
When selecting participants, the OLA/UNITAR joint selection board will give due consideration to the candidates' qualifications, to the scope of their professional duties and to adequate geographical and gender distribution of the fellowships. Applications from female candidates are strongly encouraged.
