Management of Dangerous Wastes, Senegal, 2002
Rapid industrialization has resulted in a worldwide increase in the generation of dangerous waste. The transboundary movement of hazardous waste requires international collaboration for proper management. Cooperation is especially important for preventing the uncontrolled export of dangerous wastes to developing countries which may lack the facilities for their safe recycling or disposal. The safe management of wastes is integral to protecting human health and the natural environment from any actual or potential risks. The National Workshop on the Management of Dangerous Wastes was conducted between the 16th and 18th December, 2002. Twenty-three participants representing various relevant Ministries like the Environment, Health, Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministries; universities; and NGOs, were involved in the Workshop.
