Tourism and the Environment and Integrated Coastal Zone Management, Seychelles, 2002
Tourism activities in coastal zones can be sustainable if they are developed through an integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) approach. A number of measures, such as environmental impact assessment; cooperation mechanisms; codes of conduct; active public participation and the application of the polluter pays principle, are crucial for the achievement of sustainable tourism.
The National Workshop on Tourism and the Environment and Integrated Coastal Zone Management was conducted between 25 and 27 November, 2002. Twenty-four representatives of relevant Ministries such as the Environment, Tourism and Transport, and Policy Planning Ministries; NGOs; and the academia; participated in the Workshop.
