Strengthening Capacities for Rights-based, Transparent and Accountable Environmental Governance

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) propose a capacity development programme to support developing countries to strengthen development and implementation of legislation for effective participatory environmental governance and justice. This programme would have multiple benefits across all SDGs.

Rio Principle 10 National Profile and Action Plan Projects

UNITAR has implemented a global programme which provides methodological and technical support to countries to strengthen implementation of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration through a country-driven process. Each country project prepares a National Profile and Action Plan, following a standard project methodology. All substantive decisions are made at the country level through collaboration of government with non-governmental stakeholders

The UNTAR-Yale Environment and Democracy Initiative

The UNITAR/Yale Democracy and Environment Initiative aims at addressing the growing demand for research, teaching, and capacity building in the field of democratic environmental governance. The initiative is a collaboration of UNITAR with the Yale Governance, Environment and Markets Initiative (GEM) at Yale University.
