Open Dojô Program – Leadership for Sustainability
The Open Dojô  is an innovative program specifically designed for youth and young professionals. It endeavors to foster the development of future entrepreneur leaders. The program combines theory and practice through dynamic methodology, including action-based learning, providing participants rich opportunities for learning and connecting. The Open Dojô aims at creating a network of social innovators who are able to demonstrate a set of unique professional and personal skills required to effectively perform in today’s global reality.
The Open Dojô is a blended program. It is organized in two intensive sessions, each of six days, combined with four months of practice (virtual work). The Open Dojô faculty is composed of professionals and practitioners from a variety of areas. They are part of the OpenLab’s Social Network, which is composed of professionals with sound experience acquired throughout careers at renowned organizations.
The Open Dojô develops nine competences  that can be grouped into two different levels. During the first phase (six days), participants develop six entrepreneurial competences. The second phase of the program (six days) enables the full development of the complete range of Open Dojô competences. There is a four-month interval between the two sessions. In this period, participants will practically apply the knowledge acquired, transforming it into know-how through a mix of experiences. The Practicing Interval , including the completion of the activities required in the period, is mandatory to all participants who want to obtain the Open Dojô EcoTalent Certificate jointly delivered by UNITAR and OpenLab.
The Open Dojô EcoPrototypes  are the concrete expression of some of the creative inspirations generated during the program. They are proposals, ideas or new technologies for processes, products or services, which can optimize human activity within organizations. The goal is that these EcoPrototypes can serve as a stimulus for promoting sustainable development and/or fostering the emergence of eco ventures.
What does Dojô mean?
DOJO is the combination of two ideograms: DO relates to an ethical path rooted in universal values and to the human nature as part of nature itself. JO refers to a place, an environment. In association, the two ideograms acquire a deeper meaning. It is the path to the development of the whole being through practice; where one is in synergy with one’s inner state.
The Open Dojô Program targets undergraduate and graduate students, fresh graduates, and junior professionals in any field of expertise searching for opportunities to – among others - become a sustainable entrepreneur, applying new thinking to business models or craft opportunities to influence the dynamics and establish innovative standards in society.
The Open Dojô cares about its environmental foot print. It works to reduce the environmental impact of waste generated during the sessions. All participants receive personal mugs to avoid the use of dischargeable plastic cups; the program does not distribute textbooks, instead contents are disseminated virtually on the Open Dojô learning platform. Additionally, the notebook distributed for annotations is made of recycled paper.
