LDP's E-learning Courses

LDP provides e-learning opportunities to increase the outreach of its training activities. Its online training programmes, based on sound academic principles, are intended for decision-makers from local governments, representatives of national governments, the private sector and NGOs.

Courses include highly social elements, self-assessment activities, case studies and peer-to-peer review and evaluation. This wide set of activities ensures knowledge sharing among participants and stimulates the creation of lively networks, which last long after the online courses end. 

The following LDP courses are currently available or under development:

  • Governance in Urban Sanitation (available in English and French)
  • Sustainable Urban Mobility in Developing Countries (available in English and Spanish)
  • Urban Water Governance and Management (in development)
  • The SymbioCity Approach – Achieving Urban Sustainability in Asian Cities (in development)

LDP's first course, ‘Governance in Urban Sanitation’ was launched successfully in 2009. It is delivered in English and French and it has already benefited over 400 participants around the world. LDP's second e-learning course, ‘Sustainable Urban Mobility in Developing Countries’, was launched in English in 2010 and is now being offered in Spanish. This course was developed in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

New courses for development in 2013 will focus on governance aspects of local development and decentralisation, as well as extending the portfolio of basic services into waste management and energy services as well.
