April 22, 2014. In the framework of the Seventh Session of the World Urban Forum and to contribute to the dialogue on how to plan “Cities for Life”, UNITAR hosted a training session in Medellin, Colombia on 11 April 2014, to foster the exchange of knowledge and best practices on enhancing local government’s capacity to reduce disaster risk and manage disasters, while integrating these aspects into urban planning and design.
16 April 2014. UNITAR’s training Centre for Asia-Pacific - CIFAL Jeju, convened 17 government officials and civil society representatives from 11 countries from Asia-Pacific and the U.S. Government for a 5-day workshop on “Enhancing a Victim-Centered Approach: Identification, Assistance, and Protection of Trafficking Victims in the Asia-Pacific Region”. CIFAL Jeju in partnership with the Regional Support Office of the Bali Process (RSO) hosted the event in Jeju from 17-24 March.
9 April 2014, Quito, Ecuador - UNITAR’s Decentralized Cooperation Programme, with the support of the Municipality of Quito and the University San Francisco de Quito, delivered last week a briefing session on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. The session, held in Quito, aimed at raising awareness and informing local audiences on the intergovernmental process to formulate the new development agenda, the stakeholders involved and the state of the debate in some areas that are key to local actors.
21 March, 2014 Merida, Mexico – CIFAL Merida in partnership with Merida International Airport inaugurated the 9th International Training Seminar on Hurricane Preparedness focusing on the theme “Revitalization of Airport Services".
More than 70 experts and airport authorities from Mexico, North and South America gathered in the city of Merida, Mexico to share experiences and good practices on how to be better prepared when hurricanes strike, especially in vulnerable areas near the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.
