UNITAR and AGFUND Commit to Strengthen Financial Inclusion in Africa

Al-Kahtani (left) and Mr Alexander Mejia (right), Director of the Division for People and Social Inclusion, and Director-ad-Interim of the Division for Prosperity of UNITAR at the AGFUND Headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 15 November 2018, Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR and The Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen capacity building and technical support for Financial Inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa during their bilateral meeting held at the AGFUND Headquarters in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on November 13, 2018.

The meeting was attended by the Executive Director of AGFUND Mr. Nasser B. Al-Kahtani and Mr Alexander Mejia, Director of the Division for People and Social Inclusion, and Director-ad-Interim of the Division for Prosperity of UNITAR.

It is widely recognized that Financial Inclusion is positioned prominently as an enabler to achieve the developmental goals of the Agenda 2030 by eliminating poverty, creating jobs, improving gender equality and good health.

UNITAR's role as the principal training arm of the United Nations System, whose core function includes, providing high-quality learning solutions to address the capacity development needs of individuals, organizations and institutions, compliments AGFUND’s focus to support education, financial inclusion, women empowerment, early childhood development, and engaging the civil society.

“We are proud to feel we are part of the United Nations. Wherever the UN is working, we are there as well. One thing we learned from our experience is that we need the UN partnership, its legitimacy and mandate, and the road-map that the SDGs provide. We need to continue to work together if we want to achieve the Agenda 2030” says Mr. Nasser B. Al-Kahtani his discussion with Mr Alexander Mejia.
