2 July 2021, Hiroshima, Japan –  UNITAR’s Division for Prosperity is launching a revised programme to mobilize women entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs in Afghanistan to address food insecurity, public health, and unemployment in the country. Supported by the Government of Japan, the programme will equip women entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to turn their ideas into self-led businesses and projects that support recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. It will help women entrepreneurs meet urgent domestic needs in Afghanistan as well as play a crucial role in their communities to “build back better” towards a post-pandemic world.

The programme will run in two phases and train participants on the full cycle of entrepreneurship, from idea to market. Both phases will include a self-paced online course and a self-led project, augmented by series of online webinars, peer-to-peer discussions, as well as coaching and mentoring support. The programme will also link participants with experts and networks from Afghanistan and around the world.

The programme is open to all women entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators in Afghanistan. Women candidates from the public, private, academic, media, and civic sectors across Afghanistan are encouraged to apply.
