The purpose of the internship programme at UNITAR New York Office is to provide an opportunity for university and graduate students to obtain hands-on experience in multilateral diplomacy. The experience gained is unique and will greatly enhance a student's understanding and appreciation for the UN. Individuals from diverse academic backgrounds may be assigned to UNITAR, where their educational experience can be enhanced through practical work assignment while they provide the Institute with their assistance as qualified individuals specialized in various professional fields.
Applicants are enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (university degree or higher) or post-graduate programme at the time of application and during the internship;
Applicants have completed their studies at a post-secondary institution other than a university or equivalent institution and obtained the respective certificate or diploma and are enrolled in full-time or part-time studies at the time of the application and during the internship;
Applicants must be in good standing with their respective academic institutions;
All applicants must have excellent communication skills as well as be comfortable with Excel and web management.
Interns are expected to fill a variety of roles in the New York Office. These include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the development and execution of workshops, briefings, and other UNITAR events for diplomats assigned to Permanent Missions;
- Undertake research in support for upcoming events;
- Answer any queries directed to the New York Office, and
- Assist the Head of Office in day-to-day office work.
Terms of internship programme:
The duration of an internship is one to six months.
The internship programme is normally on a full-time basis but part-time arrangements can be agreed upon depending on both the requirements of the programme and the availability of the intern.
Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not financially remunerated by UNITAR. They are not staff members and shall not represent the Institute in any official capacity.
