Comprehensive and Whole-of-Government Approaches to Post-Conflict Situations

Objective:

The need for increased integration, harmonization and coordination has been a recurring theme in international responses to post-conflict situations in recent years. Within the United Nations system, in international and regional bodies, efforts towards greater coherence at headquarters and in the field are underway. In addition, a number of national Governments are championing inter-ministerial and -departmental coordination to concurrently address development, security and governance concerns in post-conflict settings.

This seminar will discuss the interplay between different efforts at addressing the connections between security, governance and development in post-conflict contexts, focusing in particular on stabilisation, peacebuilding and recovery. It creates a forum for sharing different perspectives on these contested issues, including questions of feasibility, accountability, impact assessment and terminology.
