UNU/UNITAR Seminar on Disaster Management

Summary

Recently, natural disasters have struck in every corner of the globe, proving that no country is immune to their devastating effects. While no country can avoid such encounters, improvements in risk management and emergency response can minimize their destruction. The Hyogo Framework for Action (2005), which emphasizes prevention and resilience through sustainable development, seeks to address the needs of international and local communities. As such, it will play a vital role in the discussions during this seminar. The purposes of this event is to introduce disaster management issues, provide an overview of the latest trends, and encourage dialogue about mitigating risk, improving response and “building back better” in natural disasters.
