Series Objectives
The UNITAR Policy and Governence Series on ICT Policy Issues for Development will provide United Nations delegates with a forum for discussion and learning related to the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) within global development efforts.
- To provide high-level policy makers with critical training on how to leverage technology and technology policy to implement specific e-strategies that strengthen democracy, impact development efforts, and promote principles of good governance. Each seminar reflects a diverse set of contexts, perspectives and development goals in relation to ICT. Curriculum design and content development align closely with internationally agreed upon ICT policy objectives, such as those outlined in the Geneva Plan of Action (2003), which emerged from the first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
- To provide intensive training for high-level decision makers at the international, national and local levels on how best to capitalize upon new and existing technologies to deliver services and streamline government processes. All of UNITAR’s ICT-related training aims to bridge the discursive gap that often exists among ICT professionals, government officials, and development practitioners
