Panel on The Human Rights of Migrants
On the occasion of International Migrants Day

On the occasion of International Migrants' Day, this panel discussion will present recent initiatives to advance knowledge on and galvanize political support for the human rights of migrants. It will highlight the importance of migrants’ welfare, rights and protection in the context of the current debate on international migration and development.
In addition, particular emphasis will be placed on the less-discussed issue of migrants’ political participation in their countries of origin. Focusing on good practices and challenges in external voting operations, the discussion will offer the opportunity to reflect on countries’ rationales and provisions for pursuing the political enfranchisement of their citizens abroad.
