Migration and Development Seminar Series
Overview
The Migration and Development Seminar Series serves to foster awareness and understanding of migration governance (law, policy and institutions) and analyze the beneficial impact of migration on global development as well as the lives of millions of migrants and their families around the world through sharing of knowledge, best practices and lesson learned.
It is designed to prepare for, support and develop follow-up key discussions and negotiations on migration-related topics advanced within the framework of the on-going intergovernmental processes such as the UN General Assembly’s High Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development and the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD). In virtue of its open character, the Series brings together representatives of the New York’s diplomatic community, UN agencies, Civil Society organizations and Academia engaged in migration and development issues offering an informal and unique platform for policy thinking and dialogue.
Initiated with the “Key Migration Issues” series, organized in 2005-2006, and further developed during the 2007-08 and 2009-10 biennia, the Series has now arrived at its third implementing cycle. It is organized in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the MacArthur Foundation.
