DHL/UNITAR Workshop on the structure, retrieval and use of United Nations documentation

Coordinator: Jean Gazarian
Objectives:
This workshop, organized jointly with the Dag Hammarskjöld Library, is designed to deepen and update the participants’ knowledge of the interrelationship between the structure of the United Nations and its documentation, and to develop and enhance their skills in retrieval of information and effective use of the various reference instruments and modern facilities available at the United Nations.
Organization:
The workshop consists of three meetings. The first meeting will be devoted to an overview of the documentation of the United Nations and to an introduction to the Dag Hammarskjöld Library. At the second meeting, the participants will hear presentations on the information provided electronically by the Treaty Section and by the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea. The third meeting will be devoted to instruction by the staff of the Library on the various resources for information retrieval
Participants:
The workshop is designed for members of permanent missions requiring in-depth knowledge of United Nations documentation and the services offered by the Dag Hammarskjöld Library and the Office of Legal Affairs. For practical reasons the number of participants will be limited. UNITAR thus reserves the right to make a selection among the candidates, if necessary. The selected candidates are requested to regard their participation as a firm commitment.
Resource persons:
The workshop will be conducted by Mr. Jean Gazarian, UNITAR Senior Fellow, and a team of experts from the Dag Hammarskjöld Library led by Ms. Maritina Paniagua. Experts from the Office of Legal Affairs will make the presentations concerning the Treaty Section and the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea.
Working language:
The workshop will be conducted in English.
