UNDP/UNITAR e-Learning Course on "Human Development Impact Assessment of Trade Policy" - Course Objectives

Course objective

The main objective of this course is to create a greater awareness of the importance of informed decision-making in trade policy formulation and implementation and to present a series of innovative tools that go “beyond GDP” and traditional economic analysis to assess the impact of trade policies and agreements on people lives. At the end of the course, the participants will be able to interpret the linkages between trade and human development; to draft an outline of a Human Development Impact Assessment (HDIA) of Trade Policy; and to chose and apply the most adequate tools and data for producing an HDIA.

 

Target Audience

This course is aimed at all those who have an interest in increasing the use of evidence in trade policy making, either in the developed or developing world. The target audience will include:

  • Practitioners (from national and local governments, NGOs, etc.) who want to know how to measure the impact of trade policies on social dimensions;
  • Trade negotiators and policy makers with an interest in developing, or using, sets of tools to improve their day to day work;
  • Researchers who want to learn qualitative and quantitative methods to review a country trade policy against the multiple dimensions of human development;
  • Development specialists that are involved in the implementation of trade related technical assistance projects;
