17 January 2017, Geneva, Switzerland - Significant opportunities exist for developing and developed countries to achieve long-term and sustainable economic development by diversifying their economies and benefitting from the growing global demand for green goods and services. In this context, sustainable trade can serve as an effective means to advance an inclusive green economy.

To meet the learning needs and build capacities of national stakeholders, UNITAR and UNEP are collaborating within the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) to deliver a new interactive e-learning course at the nexus of trade and the green economy. This practice-oriented course seeks to provide interested participants from government, business and civil society with an introduction to various approaches to promote and harness opportunities related to sustainable trade.

At the end of the course, participants are given the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge to a real-life trade situation in a specific country, region, sector, or company by developing an action plan.

The action plans are peer-reviewed by participants, as well as by the course moderator. While preparing a case study, participants identify a concrete problem context and relevant issues, and define appropriate measures, resources and means of implementation.

A limited number of fellowships are available for eligible candidates. UNITAR, working in close collaboration with UNEP, will identify and select the participants to be awarded with a fellowship. The fellowship application deadline is 20th February 2017.
