21 June 2011, Geneva, Switzerland. UNITAR and the Republic of Congo (Ministry of Sustainable development, forestry economy and environment) have signed an agreement for a 2-year project on capacity building for implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The project, funded by the SAICM Quick Start Programme Trust Fund, will enable the implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Managements (SAICM) by supporting GHS activities, facilitating national commitment and implementation of the GHS in the Republic of Congo, and raising awareness and training decision makers and stakeholders about the GHS, its relation to SAICM, and its potential benefits for sustainable development.
