Diversity at UNITAR

Did you know that "Respect for Diversity" is one of the Core Values at the United Nations? An ability to work effectively, respectfully and inclusively with people from different backgrounds and with different perspectives is critical for all staff members. UNITAR is comprised of diverse staff and collaborators coming from different background, and is offering diverse training and capacity-development programmes to wide range of audiences.

Diversity is beneficial to both the organization and the members of the organization as it brings substantial potential benefits, such as better decision making and improved problem solving; greater creativity and innovation. Although UNITAR is a relatively small entity within the UN family, the colleagues working inside are coming from diverse background. UNOSAT Partnership with Ministry of Chad

The Swiss Ambassador to Chad, M. Hans Rudolf Hodel, presented the first hydrogeological map of the Wadi Fira region produced in the context of the RésEAU project to the Minister of Rural and Urban Hydraulics, Mr Amadaye Abdelkerim Bakhit.

speakerUN CC:Learn e-Course on Climate Change: Reaching out to a Diverse Crowd!

The UN CC:Learn partnership, whose secretariat is hosted by UNITAR, has recently launched a free introductory e-course on climate change. The course has gathered interest from a diverse crowd: more than 2,400 people hailing from over 150 countries have registered to the e-course… and we are still counting! Access the course.

Beneficiaries Again Top 50,000

For the second consecutive biennium, the Institute’s total number of beneficiaries has topped the 50,000 benchmark.

The regional breakdown of beneficiaries from training-related events continues to reflect the general distribution from the 2010-2011 biennium, with participants from Africa representing the largest proportion (at 36 per cent), followed by Asia and the Pacific (27 per cent), Latin American and the Caribbean (11 per cent), and Europe, North America and the Middle East at 19, 7 and 3 per cent, respectively. In terms of nationality, seven of the top ten countries benefitting from UNITAR training-related services are developing (Afghanistan, Cameroun, India, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Uganda).

Applications rise to record numbers with International Water Law e-Learning Course

In order to meet the needs to develop capacities of professionals involved in negotiating or implementing treaties on or related to freshwater resources, UNITAR and the University of Geneva, with financial assistance from Switzerland, developed and launched an online course on International Water Law.

Approaching its third edition, the course has seen a record 1,219 applications received from 115 countries since its pilot session in February 2013. Of the 1,219 applications, over 82% have come from developing and least developed countries demonstrating an urgent need for training and capacity building in the field.

Multi-Language Trainings in Public Finance and Trade Developed with Multiple Partners Delivered to a Diverse Audience

The Pubic Finance and Trade Programme endeavours to capitalize on its ability to deliver quality training to its beneficiaries around the globe through e-Learning, face-to-face events, seminars and workshops. Over 2,400 participants took part in 58 training programmes offered in five different languages (Arabic, English, French, Russian, and Spanish) during the past 16 months.
