The Learning App

UNITAR

Significant progress on road safety can be achieved through global cooperation, implementation of evidence-based strategies and engagement with all relevant actors, including the private sector, as well as additional innovative approaches.

With the aim of contributing to advance road safety, the United Nations Institute for Training And Research (UNITAR) developed the "Management Practices for Safer Roads Toolkit Learning App" which presents a practical management methodology that can be applied in the field of road safety.

The App provides in-hand practical solutions, participatory contributions from different stakeholders including the private sector, and results-based interventions. It highlights projects in which the methodology has been implemented and tested in cities in Brazil, China, Dominican Republic, India, Mexico and South Africa.

It also features a checklist to support users to monitor their progress throughout the different stages of the “Plan-Do-Check-Act” Toolkit’s methodology.

Download the app in English and Swahili on Google Play or the App Store.

UNITAR

16 November 2021, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – UNITAR Road Safety Global Training Initiative, in partnership with Tanzania’s Traffic Police, AB InBev and Tanzania’s Brewery Limited (TBL), delivered a virtual 3-day workshop to strengthen Tanzania’s national capacity for developing local strategies to improve existing road infrastructure for the benefit of all road users, especially the most vulnerable, and to equip participants with the appropriate methodology and tools to accomplish this.

During this workshop, 15 police officers were introduced to UNITAR’s Management Practices for Safer Roads Toolkit, and to pilot projects held in cities in Brazil and India. The workshop allowed participants to explore more-in-depth the Toolkit with special emphasis on the need to improve road infrastructure, the importance of law enforcement, the value of partnerships with a collaborative and multi-stakeholder approach to road safety, and everyone’s responsibility as road users to put efforts on making safer roads for all.

UNITAR launched during the last day of the workshop the Management Practices for Safer Roads Toolkit Mobile App in Swahili language, developed for the use of Tanzania’s Traffic Police. To access the Mobile App in Swahili, download it from Google Play or the App Store and choose in “Preferences" your preferred language.
